About Inspections by Bob

Bob Sisson started his Inspections by Bob in 2003 with a mission to help home buyers and home owners be aware of the condition of their homes, to inform them about the importance of proper maintenance, and to make sure the home was a safe environment for their families. In 2010, his wife Welmoed joined the company, and she received her Home Inspector license in 2011.

We are committed to uphold the basic principles of Independence, Thoroughness, and Qualification.

Independence

All Maryland Licensed Home Inspectors are bound by an Ethics pledge that they will keep their clients' interests first, but this is not always enough.

There are many home inspectors that get most of their clients from only a few sources. "Upsetting" one of these sources with a bad home inspection report could jeopardize future home inspection leads. We get the majority of our leads from the internet, or from previous client referrals. Some agents do refer clients to us because they know we are thorough, picky and take the time to explain things, and they are looking out for their clients' interests. They will be the first to say that they don't want to see our vehicles pull up when they are the seller's agent.

Why is Independence important? Check out the Independent Home Inspectors of North America web site. They have some interesting stories about inspections by "the agent's inspector" along with a copy of the pledge IHNA members have signed. Our inspectors are two of only five inspectors in all of Maryland who are truly "independent." See the list at: http://www.independentinspectors.org/home-inspections/maryland.html#maryland

Thoroughness

Some inspectors may tell you that a home inspection on a typical home can take just two hours. This is simply not enough time to do a thorough and comprehensive review of the entire house. When we make an appointment, we make sure to allow adquate time to examine every area of the home, including closets, crawl spaces, attics, and every single room. This means we will never rush through your inspection. We generally allow an hour per 1,000 square feet of space, plus another hour to review the report with you and answer your questions.

And we do encourage questions! Your home inspection is your time to learn about the property. When it comes to buying a home, there really are no dumb questions. Buying a home can be a confusing and overwhelming process; we want you to be able to go into it with open eyes and all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Qualifications

Home Inspectors are required to be licensed in the state of Maryland. To become licensed, an inspector must take a state-approved training class, pass the stringent National Home Inspectors Exam, and carry adequate insurance. Both Bob and Welmoed have met all these requirements and have received their licenses.

But just having a valid license doesn't make a home inspector qualified! To make sure we are current on all the latest advances in home building and technology, we attend classes and conferences to hone our skills. We are also required to earn a certain number of Continuing Education credits to maintain our professional standings and affiliation with the American Society of Home Inspectors. Bob has earned the status of "ASHI Certified Inspector" -- the highest level of qualification within ASHI. It's important to note that ASHI certification is awarded based on third-party verification - the only national Home Inspection association with third-party verification.

Bob has also served as President of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of ASHI, and is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the national organization. Welmoed is an Associate Member of ASHI, and serves on the Public Relations committee for the national organization. She has also taught classes at the ASHI annual conference, InspectionWorld.
